Maneuvering Fires S-300V4, S-400, Tunguska-M, Buk-M3 and Tor-M2 

Battlefield air defense troops conducted missile launches from S-300V4, Buk-M3 and Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile systems during massive drills in the southern Astrakhan Region, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Thursday. "Tactical drills of five anti-aircraft missile formations with the launches of S-300V4, Buk-M3 and Tor-M2 air defense systems were held in the Astrakhan Region," the statement says. According to the Defense Ministry’s data, large-scale drills with the launches of long-, medium and short-range anti-aircraft missile systems were held at the battlefield air defense combat training center in the Astrakhan Region with anti-aircraft missile troops undergoing training (re-training) to learn to operate the most advanced weapons. The troops created multi-layered air defenses to thwart a massive strike by aerospace attack weapons. In the course of the drills, anti-aircraft missile formations of the Southern, Western and Eastern Military Districts repelled strikes by ballistic and cruise missiles, aircraft and an attack by a swarm of drones of a hypothetical enemy. At the Kapustin Yar training ground, a battlefield air defense combined force of five surface-to-air missile formations armed with S-300V4, Buk-M3 and Tor-M2 launchers was set up, the statement says. At the first frontier of the layered defense, the battalions of S-300V3 long-range air defense systems thwarted a strike by aeroballistic missiles, conducting missile launches against the targets that attacked from an altitude of over 150 km, the press office said. At the second frontier, the combat teams of Buk-M3 medium-range battlefield air defense systems and battalions of Tor-M2 short-range launchers repelled an attack by the notional enemy’s cruise missiles flying at extremely low altitudes. The combat squads of Buk-M3 and Tor-M2 weapons also struck fast-speed multiple targets that simulated an air raid at a range of 10 km to 40 km, the ministry specified. The battalions of Tor-M2 short-range missile systems also conducted launches against multiple air targets that simulated an attack by a swarm of the mock enemy’s drones at ranges of up to 15 km. Overall, the anti-aircraft gunners destroyed over 40 aerial sole and multiple targets at altitudes of 7 meters to 35 km, launching missiles to ranges of 3 km to 50 km. The drills involved over 1,000 personnel and 300 items of armament and military hardware. All the designated targets were wiped out in the course of the drills, the Defense Ministry reported.

The 9K37 Buk Air Defense Missile System shocked Israel in Syria

The Buk missile system (Russian: "Бук"; "beech" (tree), /bʊk/) is a family of self-propelled, medium-range surface-to-air missile systems developed by the Soviet Union and its successor state, the Russian Federation, and designed to counter cruise missiles, smart bombs, fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Buk missile system is the successor to the NIIP/Vympel 2K12 Kub (NATO reporting name SA-6 "Gainful").

The first version of Buk adopted into service carried the GRAU designation 9K37 Buk and was identified in the west with the NATO reporting name "Gadfly" as well as the US Department of Defense designation SA-11.With the integration of a new missile the Buk-M1-2 and Buk-M2 systems also received a new NATO reporting name Grizzly and a new DoD designation SA-17. Since 2013, the latest incarnation "Buk-M3" is currently in production and active service.

A naval version of the system, designed by MNIIRE Altair (currently part of GSKB Almaz-Antey) for the Russian Navy, received the GRAU designation 3S90M and will be identified with the NATO reporting name Gollum and a DoD designation SA-N-7C, according to Jane's Missiles & Rockets. The naval system was scheduled for delivery in 2014

India - Akash Air Defence Weapon System

Akash is a medium-range mobile surface-to-air missile defense system developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for Missile Systems, Bharat Electronics (BEL), Tata Power Strategic Engineering Division and Larsen & Toubro for other radars, control centers, launcher systems in India. The Akash New Generation missile system can target aircraft up to 50–60 km (31–37 mi) away, at altitudes up to 18,000 m. It has the capability to neutralise aerial targets like fighter jets, cruise missiles and air-to-surface missiles as well as ballistic missiles. It is in operational service with the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.

An Akash battery comprises a single Rajendra 3D passive electronically scanned array radar and four launchers with three missiles each, all of which are interlinked. Each battery can track up to 64 targets and attack up to 12 of them. The missile has a 60 kg (130 lb) high-explosive, pre-fragmented warhead with a proximity fuse. The Akash system is fully mobile and capable of protecting a moving convoy of vehicles. The launch platform has been integrated with both wheeled and tracked vehicles. While the Akash system has primarily been designed as an air defence SAM, it also has been tested in a missile defense role. The system provides air defence missile coverage for an area of 2,000 km2 (770 sq mi). The Indian military's combined orders of the Akash, including radar systems (WLR and Surveillance), have a total worth of ₹23,300 crore (US$4 billion)

 The 2K22 Tunguska (Russian: 2К22 "Тунгуска") is a Russian tracked self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon armed with a surface-to-air gun and missile system. It is designed to provide day and night protection for infantry and tank regiments against low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and cruise missiles in all weather conditions. The NATO reporting name for the missile used by the weapon system is SA-19 "Grison" 

 After a limited production run of the original 2K22, an improved version designated 2K22M/2S6M entered service in 1990. The 2K22M featured several improvements with eight ready-to-fire missiles (four on each side) as well as modifications to the fire control programs, missiles and the general reliability of the system, and improved autocannons, 2A38M. 

Tunguska underwent further improvement when, in 2003, the Russian armed forces accepted the Tunguska-M1 or 2K22M1 into service. The M1 introduced the new 9M311-M1 missile, which made a number of changes allowing the 2K22M1 to engage small targets like cruise missiles by replacing the eight-beam laser proximity fuze with a radio fuse. An additional modification afforded greater resistance to infrared countermeasures by replacing the missile tracking flare with a pulsed IR beacon. Other improvements included an increased missile range from 8 to 10 km, improved optical tracking and accuracy, improved fire control co-ordination between components of a battery and the command post. Overall, the Tunguska-M1 has a combat efficiency 1.3–1.5 times greater than the Tunguska-M.

 The Tunguska family was until recently a unique and highly competitive weapons system, though in 2007 the Pantsir gun and missile system entered production at KBP—a descendant of the Tunguska, the Pantsir system offers even greater performance than its predecessor.

Russia - 9K22 Tunguska - Self Propelled Anti Aircraft Artillery

The 2S6 Tunguska (Western reporting name SA-19 or Grison) is a Russian low-level air-defense system. Also known as 2K22M1, 2S6M, 9K22, SA-19 Grison and Tunguska-M1, was developed to replace the ZSU-23-4 Shilka self-propelled anti-aircraft gun and 9K31 Strela-1 and Strela-1M2 mobile surface-to-air missile systems. The ZSU-23-4 had no early warning and struggled to counter new ground attack aircraft, such as the US A-10 Thunderbolt II.

The original Tunguska was fitted with 9M311 missiles. These have a semi-active radar guidance and blast fragmentation warhead. There is a laser proximity fuse which triggers the warhead once the missile is near its. These missiles can engage targets traveling at speeds up to 500 m/s. Maximum altitude is only 3.5 km, while maximum range is 8 km. The 9M311 missiles are effective against low-flying aircraft and helicopters. These have a hit probability of 65%, while hit probability with guns is 80%. The 9M311-1 is a downgraded export version of the missile. The Tunguska is able to fire its guns on the move, however it must be stationary to fire missiles. The Tunguska typically launches its missiles when the target is at longer ranges, and uses guns at shorter ranges. Radar detection range of the original Tunguska is 17-18 km and tracking range is 11-16 km. Since its introduction no less than four different variants of search radars were used. Armor of the Tunguska protects the crew against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. Though it will not withstand heavy machine gun fire. Vehicle is fitted with automatic fire suppression and NBC protection systems.

Powered by a version of the V-46 diesel, a multi-fuel engine, developing 780 hp. Vehicle has a hydropneumatic suspension with adjustable ground clearance, fitted with auxiliary gas turbine power unit, which powers all systems when the main engine is shut down. Battery of Tunguskas includes six 2S6 combat vehicles, six reloading vehicles, and five various technical assistance vehicles, including repair and maintenance vehicles, mobile workshop and missile test vehicles. A battery of Tunguskas can automatically receive fire control information from Ranzhir mobile command center.The dual 2A38 30 mm cannons and the later 2A38M were designed by the KBP Instrument Design Bureau and manufactured by the Tulamashzavod Joint Stock Company. The cannons are fired alternatively with a combined rate of fire of between 3,900 and 5,000 rounds per minute (1,950 to 2,500 rpm for each gun), and have a muzzle velocity of 960 m/s. Bursts of between 83 and 250 rounds are fired as determined by the target type, with an engagement range between 0.2 and 4.0 km and to an altitude of 4 km. Russia - Pantsir S1





Since 2013, Russia has deployed Pantsir S-1 to Syria amid the country’s civil war to defend its soldiers and Syrian government forces.
The Pantsir has also played a role in the Russian/Ukrainian conflict. Notably, pieces from a Pantsir 57E6 missile were found in Ukraine in November 2014, and in December, it was confirmed that
Russia had deployed the air defense system to the Russia-Ukraine border region. In February 2015, reports and footage of Pantsirs being used by pro-Russian forces in Ukraine’s Donetsk region surfaced. The system has also been deployed in the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine.

UK - Land Ceptor

The CAMM (Common Anti-Air Modular Missile) series is a family of surface-to-air missiles developed by MBDA for the United Kingdom. CAMM shares some common features and components with the ASRAAM air-to-air missile, but with updated electronics and an active radar homing seeker. The Common Anti-Air Modular Missile is intended to replace the Sea Wolf missile on Type 23 frigates of the Royal Navy from 2017, the Rapier missile in British Army service from 2018 and is contributing to the updating of MBDA's ASRAAM in service with the Royal Air Force.

Built by MBDA, Land Ceptor comprises the Common Anti-air Modular Missile (CAMM), a launcher vehicle and two fire unit support vehicles. It is being developed to protect British troops on operations from aerial threats, including hostile combat aircraft and air-launched munitions.

Russia - 2S38 Derivaciya

The 2S38 'Derivaciya'is a new Russian Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Gun (SPAAG). The cutting-edge artillery unit features a fully automated turret which is operated remotely by the machine’s three-man crew. While the 57mm gun is essentially an anti-aircraft piece, it’s also able to strike land targets with high precision.

 
 Mounted on the BMP-3 amphibious armored vehicle, the 2S38 is designed to shoot down UAVs, cruise missiles, air-to-surface missiles, tactical warplanes and air support helicopters.

UK - Starstreak



STARStreak High Velocity Missile was designed to provide close air defence against conventional air threats such as fixed wing fighters and late unmasking helicopter targets.

The STARStreak configuration is based on the proven principles of high velocity to defeat targets with short unmasking times. The three dart payload maximises levels of lethality and accurate line of sight; laser beam riding guidance enables engagement of the smallest signature targets, which are extremely difficult to defeat and lock onto by traditional fire and forget missiles.
